Hygrocybe nitrata (Pers. ex Pers.) Wünsche syn. Hygrophorus nitratus (Pers. ex Pers.) Fr. Seifen-Saftling Hygrophore nitreux Nitrous Waxcap. Cap 1.5–8cm across, convex then expanded, light sepia to date-brown, often yellow-brown at margin when fresh, drying pallid. Stem 30–100 x 3–12mm, creamy pallid darkening towards the base. Flesh whitish cream. Taste foul, soapy, smell nitrous. Gills whitish cream becoming tinged with cap colour. Spore print white. Spores 7–10 x 4.5–5.5um. Habitat amongst grass. Season late summer. Rare. Not edible. Distribution, America and Europe. |
